The Piaggio Liberty was introduced in 1997.
The Liberty is sold in the UK in both 50cc and 125cc forms. 50cc models of the Liberty are sold with air-cooled versions of either Piaggio's 2-stroke HI-PER2 engine or their 4-stroke HI-PER4 engine. 125cc versions of the Liberty feature Piaggio's air-cooled 4-stroke LEADER engine. The 50cc version of the Liberty feature 16 inch front and rear wheels, the 125cc version uses a 14 inch rear wheel. The large wheels of the Liberty puts it into the category of a "high-wheel scooter", putting it in direct competition with Honda's SH and Aprilia's Scarabeo.
