Always check the oil pump is primed before starting the engine. This can be done with a cordless drill on a very slow setting, connect the oil pipes to the pump but leave off the thin pipe where it normally connects into the carb and spin the pump slowly until the oil comes out of this pipe and there are no air bubbles left in the pipe.
