It is cast iron, standard cylinders will normally always be iron. Alloy/ aluminium cylinders are normally used for more highly tuned setups because they are better at conducting away heat but they are more expensive because they have to be coated with a special lining so as they do not wear quickly (iron is much harder wearing than aluminium alloy)
